My Hair Loss Journey: Opening Hove Hair Clinic and Helping Others

Hi everyone! I’m Sarah Landon and I want to share a very personal story—one that changed the course of my life and inspired me to open Hove Hair Clinic. It’s a story about hair loss, resilience, patience and the transformative power of taking control of your life.

The Shock of Hair Loss

In my mid-20s, I was traveling the world, living carefree and embracing adventure. Then one day, as I was washing my hair, something unimaginable happened—two-thirds of it came out. I stood there in shock, completely blindsided. I had no idea why it was happening or what to do next.

My confidence plummeted. Suddenly, I was spending hours in front of the mirror, trying to spread what little hair I had left to cover my scalp. I felt like I had to wear bandanas all the time just to hide what was happening. Hair loss consumed my thoughts—first thing in the morning and last thing at night. And to be honest, it stayed that way for a while.

The Journey to Recovery

Looking back, I realise how deeply that time affected me. Hair loss isn’t just about hair—it’s about your self-image and how others perceive you. It can be emotionally devastating. I had dealt with a severe scalp condition in my teens, so I knew some of the basics about hair care. I immediately sought out hair vitamins and supplements, specialist hair health products and hair loss treatments to start caring for my crown again. I even used a clip-on hairpiece to feel more confident while I figured things out.

The process was slow, made harder by the stress and embarrassment I felt. I wasn’t talking about it, and it became the elephant in the room. But eventually, with patience and the right care, my hair began to grow back.

When Hair Loss Struck Again

You can imagine my devastation when it happened all over again. But this time, I was ready. I knew the cause and understood how to react. I didn’t hide—I talked about it, put on my hairpiece with confidence, and stayed calm. To my surprise, my hair grew back much quicker the second time around.

One life-changing thing I learned is that stress has a huge impact on both hair loss and recovery. I now share this insight with my clients. I understand how hard it is to manage stress when you’re experiencing hair loss for the first time, but reducing stress can make all the difference in the healing process.

Opening My Clinic to Help Others

In 2007, I decided to open Hove Hair Clinic. I knew from experience how isolating hair loss can be and I wanted to create a space where people feel comfortable, supported, understood and empowered. Helping others through their hair loss journey became my passion.

At Hove Hair Clinic, we offer personalised hair and scalp treatments that go beyond addressing the physical aspects of hair loss. We focus on rebuilding confidence and providing a safe, open space where people can talk about their concerns without judgment. Seeing the transformation in my clients, when they start seeing results and feeling like themselves again is the most rewarding part of what we do. Read more about our approach.
